Ensure that the joints to be sealed are thoroughly clean and free from dust, fuel, and oil spillage. The joint surface should be dry, ideally with a surface temperature of at least 10°C. Avoid application on icy surfaces or during rainy conditions.
Note: For treatment in damp conditions, consider using Colas RS Bitukold, a pourable, cold-applied edge sealant.
H4 must be heated before use. Utilise a heating kettle with an indirect heating system, such as hot oil, for optimal results. Ensure that H4 does not exceed 180°C and that the oil temperature does not exceed 240°C. When heated, pour either from a watering can or directly from the melting kettle via a pressure-fed heated hose with a special nozzle. Avoid placing 25kg tin pails over direct heat sources, such as gas or wood fires.
For a 40mm vertical joint face and a 2mm coated thickness of H4: 0.08kg of H4 seals approximately one linear metre of joint, or a 25kg pack seals approximately 300 linear metres of joint.
Store H4 away from frost and extreme heat, avoiding stacking and direct sunlight exposure.
H4 is a 40/60 penetration bitumen that complies with BS 594987 clause 6.8 for Joints, vertical face coating. It is suitable for jointing as required in Clause 903 of the Specification for Highway Works.
H4 is available in 12.5kg and 25kg siliconised, easy strip cartons, and in 25kg tin pails with handles. The leak-proof pails are particularly convenient for use during hot weather.
Wear suitable protective clothing (heat-resistant gauntlet gloves, overalls, protective footwear, face visor).
Avoid water contact with hot material.
Do not exceed maximum safe heating temperature.
Tins/pails must not be placed over direct heat.
In case of molten material contact with skin, do not attempt to remove it. Instead, immerse the affected area in cold running water and seek medical advice without delay.
This product is hazardous for transportation when carried at temperatures above 100°C.
