Bitukold: Cold-Hand Applied Thixotropic Bitumen Emulsion for Vertical Joint Sealing
Bitukold offers a cutting-edge solution as a cold-hand applied thixotropic bitumen emulsion, meticulously formulated to effectively seal vertical joints.
For smaller patches, Bitukold doubles as a tack coat, eliminating the need for a separate tack coating emulsion and enhancing cost-efficiency.
Primarily, Bitukold serves to protect new joints in freshly laid asphalt or macadam surfaces.
Transverse or longitudinal vertical joints
Kerb channels
Drain or manhole frames
Trench reinstatements
Patch repairs
Ensure ambient temperatures are not less than 5°C before applying Bitukold. Prepare the surface by ensuring it is clean and free from loose material, oil, grease, standing water, and weeds.
Use a soft fibre or turks head brush dampened with clean water for Bitukold application. After shaking off any excess water, apply the Bitukold evenly in one direction, covering the entire joint face. In very hot weather, dampening the joint surface facilitates easier application. Under normal conditions, surfacing can commence within 15 minutes, and the application of hot material expedites drying. However, drying may be delayed in cold, damp, or humid weather. Wash brushes immediately after use with soapy water followed by Leoclean.
For vertical joints, 1.5kg/sqm achieves a dried film thickness of 1mm. A 15kg bucket covers approximately 200 linear metres of joint for joints 50mm deep. Saw cutting the edge of the joint maximises the spread rate. For use as a tack coat in small patches and potholes, aim for a spread rate of 0.25-0.45kg/sqm.
Protect Bitukold from frost or extremes of heat. When stored in sealed buckets under good storage conditions, Bitukold maintains its efficacy for up to six months.
Bitukold complies with BS 594987 clause 6.8 for Joints, vertical face coating.
Bitukold is conveniently available in re-sealable 15kg buckets, with 36 buckets per pallet.
